Compatibility is more than the vehicle model

An OBD2 port does not automatically mean that every app function and control unit is accessible. DiagnostiX therefore separates standard OBD2, manufacturer-specific diagnostics and guided service functions.

OBD2 / EOBD

Realistic expectation: available functions vary

Even two vehicles from the same model range can use different control units or software versions. The actual connection must therefore be checked on the vehicle.

  • Other modules require manufacturer-specific support
  • Not every live PID exists in every vehicle
  • Service functions only on explicitly compatible systems

Frequently asked questions

From which model year does OBD2 work?

Introduction depends on region, fuel type and approval rules. In Europe, EOBD became common for many petrol vehicles in the early 2000s and for many diesels somewhat later. Check the specific vehicle.

Can DiagnostiX read every control unit?

No. Standard OBD2 mainly covers emissions-related engine data. Additional modules require manufacturer-specific support.

Why are some live values missing?

The control unit only provides PIDs that it supports. An app or adapter cannot force a vehicle to provide data that is not available.

Which adapter should I use?

The adapter must match the DiagnostiX product, phone or browser and the required vehicle protocols. Very basic ELM327 clones can be limited.
