What does C0050 mean?

The control module detected a condition described as “Rear-right wheel-speed sensor – circuit”. The code identifies the affected area, but it does not by itself prove which component has failed. The code describes the detected condition, not a guaranteed failed part. A reliable diagnosis also considers related codes, freeze-frame data, live values and the actual symptoms.

02

Possible causes

  • Damaged wheel-speed sensor or tone ring
  • Broken wiring or corrosion near the wheel
  • Faulty wheel bearing with integrated encoder ring
  • ABS pump, relay or control module fault
03

Common symptoms

  • ABS/ESC warning lamp
  • ABS, traction control or cruise control may be disabled
  • Implausible speed reading from one wheel
  • Reduced brake-assistance functions
04

Sensible next checks

  • Compare all wheel-speed values at low speed
  • Inspect the sensor wire and connector at the wheel
  • Check the encoder ring and wheel bearing mechanically
  • Do not continue driving if a red brake warning is displayed

Why does it return after clearing?

Clearing the code only removes the stored entry. If the underlying condition remains, the control module will set the code again after the next relevant monitor cycle. Save the data first, diagnose the cause, repair it and only then clear the code.
